These guidelines were developed by the Pediatric Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs at each campus to inform initial selection of empiric antimicrobial therapy for children at the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals and affiliated outpatient sites. The guidelines were developed in collaboration with multiple clinical groups. They represent consensus based on evidence-based guidelines and local microbiology and susceptibility patterns.

Some recommendations may be campus-specific and this is noted where applicable. Please refer to site-specific guidelines that account for differences in antimicrobial formulary.
