UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Antimicrobial Susceptibility: Enterococcal Bloodstream Isolates Susceptibilities

Of 42 enterococcal bacteremias in 2014-2016, 3 (7%) were vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium, 4 (10%) were Enterococcus species considered functionally resistant to vancomycin, but susceptible to ampicillin, e.g. Enterococcus avium, Enterococcus casseliflavus, Enterococcus gallinarum. Overall, 38/42 (90%) enterococcal bloodstream isolates were susceptible to ampicillin.
